Trek Log: 001 - Prologue
This is the first official "Trek Log", recorded by your trusty "narrator" Lt. Higgins. My shift just ended, and believe me, ten hours overhauling and installing Power Regulators is a real pain in the butt. But I digress.
Times are certainly interesting in Starfleet right now, I can tell you that. With the discovery of this new wormhole to the Gamma Quadrant near one of our Deep Space stations, "9" I think, everybody's excitement has quickly become sobering watchfulness. It seems their is another power on the other side called the "Dominion", and they don't appear to be too friendly.
While this discovery is totally amazing (the first stable wormhole? (That flies in the face of all my professors back at the Academy!), even Starfleet Command's usual brazenness for the unknown has been a bit tempered. We haven't been told much, but I heard a few of ours ships have gone missing while exploring the Gamma Quadrant, and that has certainly got the brass's attention. One of my buddies is on the Okinawa, and they were one of the ships designated to explore this new territory. His last message was that they were leaving in a few days and we'd catch up when he got back. He was real excited, but he's always been a knucklehead. That was 5 weeks ago.
Honestly we don't really know anything about these people, and yet they have the Federation on pins and needles. During my leave on Earth a month ago, their were more freshly minted cadets than I've ever seen before milling around San Francisco. Crews are being put together, and ships being re-commissioned and refitted. The martian shipyards were booming with activity... I even saw a few old scuttled birds getting new wings. Maneuvers, drills, war-games. A blind man can tell that we are mustering for something, which is never good. Lots of fresh faces. Beneath the laughter and pride, I can tell everybody seems worried or confused. Hopefully the diplomats can do their job and we wont need to worry. Right.
Even so, life goes on, and not everything is doom and gloom!
The Klingons are still our allies (grumpy and loud as normal), and some of our ships have been pushing into the unknown of the Shackleton Expanse. Looks like they may have found something too.
The Romans.... are being Romulan. I.E pushing our buttons wherever they can, however they can. Nothing new there, though I read a few debriefings of missions outside the Neutral zone and they really are making it difficult for us. I wouldn't be surprised if we have a bit of dust-up with them at some point. Again, nothing new.
As for me personally, just another week in the service. We rescued a Benzite crew from their damaged ship, and our doctor was able to synthesize a cure for a nasty bit of disease on a small planet called Yedre IV, and Lt. Jash had quintuplets! I lost that bet with the XO. However, while I await re-assignment, I won the local Parrises Squares tournament here on Station 12. Still got it baby!
Their are lots of things going on, too many to list, but the Alpha Quadrant is a big place, and I've been issued new marching orders. New ship and a new crew, part of the re-shuffling I guess. I'll miss the Bracewell; I made alot of friends and had some good times. But thems the breaks. Got a few more days of Sim training to go, and i've already met some of my new crew mates who are here for the same reason I am. Looking forward to the new ship and another chapter. while I wait for re-assignment
I wish i didn't have to write this thing, but the counselor said she's going to follow my progress remotely so I keep up with it. Counselors. Sigh.
Maybe i'll go to the Rey's Lounge and see if that Trill beauty is still hanging around... I do love me some spots.
